DAy 3

Day 3: wednesday, august 6, 2025
After breakfast, we’ll be departing for a tour of the Ford Rouge Factory in Dearborn. Discover your drive. Pop open the hood on game-changing technology, sustainable design, and sheer American grit at America’s greatest manufacturing experience. Experience the awe-inspiring scale of a real factory floor as you rev up your inner engineer. Get an inside look at the making of America’s most iconic truck, the Ford F-150 and immerse yourself in modern manufacturing’s most progressive concepts on a self-guided walking tour of Ford’s final assembly plant. This is where big ideas gain momentum.
Experience and celebrate engineering ingenuity behind the production of the award-winning truck with a multisensory film experience complete with a vibrating seat, gusts of wind, and winking robots. You’ll see the manufacturing process up close, from concept to highway. Don’t miss the “living roof” growing on top of the Dearborn Truck Plant final assembly building. It spans 10.4 acres and is one of the largest living roofs in the world.
Enjoy a quick stop for lunch after the Plant tour before we head to Detroit, for a guided tour of the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant. The birthplace of the Ford Model T car, the Ford Piquette Avenue Plant is recognized as one of the most significant automotive heritage sites in the world. The first 12,000 Model T’s were assembled here and shipped out by railroad.
Later this afternoon we depart for Grosse Pointe Shores for dinner and tour of the Ford House. The Ford House stands as a testament to Edsel & Eleanor’s commitment to design excellence. You’ll find it’s not ostentatious or intimidating, despite the elegant décor and the fine art on the walls. The rooms feel intimate and comfortable. It isn’t just a house – it’s a home. A warm welcoming place for family. The house was designed by prominent architect Albert Kahn, known for his work on several structures in Detroit and industrial design in Ford Motor Co. factories. It was inspired by the Cotswold-style cottages in England. The family moved into their home in 1928. Around every corner you can discover world-class art and design pieces collected by art-lovers Edsel and Elenor. They displayed paintings by Vincent Van Gogh and Diego Rivera – a personal friend of Eleanor. With 87 acres, the Ford House grounds, gardens and lakeside landscapes offer you ample space to explore in the natural beauty. Tiptoe through the blooms on Flower Lane, get lost in the heavenly scent of the Rose Gardens, enjoy the tranquility of Bird Island, and watch sailboats and freighters float by on Lake St. Clair. In 2016, the Ford House was honored as a National Historic Landmark.
