Activity Level 3: MODERATE
Expectations: Expect a moderate amount of walking. There will be time to rest on the coach and between attractions. To enjoy this tour, you should be prepared to walk slightly longer distances, climb stairs and tolerate periods of standing, for example on city walks, sightseeing stops or ship excursions. The daily pace and timing can fluctuate significantly between longer and shorter travel days, with additional activities possibly occurring in the early morning or evening. There may be some changes in altitude or temperatures. Please be aware that on tours with flights and cruises you will be required to handle your own luggage and walk longer distances in airports and cruise terminals. In addition, you may need to handle your own luggage at hotels where luggage handling is not available.
Appropriate for: Most travelers beginning with those who are moderately fit, lead semi-active lives, are comfortable participating in long days of activities and expect some physical exertion.
Deposit & Final Payment: A $600 Non-Refundable deposit per person is due at time of reservation plus Cruise Protection Plan and optional Travel Waiver Plus premiums if chosen. Must be paid in full by May 1, 2025. No refunds will be issued after 5:00pm on April 1, 2024.
Cruise Protection Plan and Travel Waiver Plus:
AmaWaterways Cruise Protection Plan is offered through Travel Guard and just like any travel protection, it provides guests with a monetary refund in the event they need to cancel their river cruise prior to departure for a covered reason. It is also very valuable once guests are traveling and need assistance in the event of an emergency. The Cruise Protection Plan is a custom-plan and includes Covid-19 coverage; contact Travel Guard for specific details. Our Travel Waiver Plus is offered to you through AmaWaterways and covers any pre-cruise cancellation for any reason 31 days or more than the start of AmaWaterways purchased services. Guests would receive a Future Cruise Credit for the value of the penalties valid for two years from the date of cancellation. It is important to know that the Cruise Protection Plan is only available for US residents, but the Travel Waiver Plus is currently available to all AmaWaterways guests.
A valid passport is required for this tour that must not expire before March 2026.

Budapest, Hungary – Board your luxurious river cruise ship and have some independent time before the evening briefings, cocktail hour and dinner.

Bratislava, Slovakia – Take your time this morning as the ship cruises from Austria to Slovakia. Host to the crowning ceremonies of 11 Hungarian kings and queens between 1536 and 1830, Bratislava certainly has earned the title “Coronation City of Kings,” as you’ll discover during your walking tour. If you prefer exploring the world through your tastebuds, join a special “Tastes of Slovakia” tour to sample traditional flavors from the region, including local beer., For a more active adventure, hike up to Bratislava Castle, offering magnificent views of the city, or journey further while on the seat of your bike on a guided cycling tour.

Cruise Day 3 – August 15, 2025
Wachau Valley – Melk, Austria – Spend your morning reveling in the postcard-perfect landscapes of Austria’s picturesque UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Wachau Valley. Later in the day, arrive in Melk, Austria. Located above the city on a rocky outcrop overlooking the Danube, Melk Abbey is one of Europe’s largest and most revered Baroque monasteries and a breathtaking UNESCO World Heritage Site. Originally founded in the 11th century, the magnificent abbey now houses a museum chronicling its history and a famous library with countless medieval manuscripts. During your tour you will see some of Melk’s musical manuscripts as well as frescoes painted by Johann Michael Rottmayr and Paul Troger. If you prefer a more active tour, you may hike to Melk Abbey or pedal around town on a guided bike tour. Alternatively, venture to the neighboring town of Durnstein for a walking tour along its charming, cobbled lanes, taking in the beauty of its brilliant blue Stiftskirche tower.

Cruise Day 4 – August 16, 2025
Linz, Austria – Arrive in Linz, where you’ll have two choices for full-day excursions. Venture to Salzburg where you’ll tour the historic center, lovely Mirabell Gardens, Residenz Square and the Old Market. You will also visit the museum at the famed yellow building known as Mozart Birth House and residence where the legendary composer was born in 1756 and lived until 1773. En route to Salzburg, stop at Mondsee, home of the Basilica St. Michael where the wedding scene from The Sound of Music was filmed. You may alternatively choose to join a full-day excursion to the charming Czech mountain town of Cesky Krumlov, where you can stroll its cobblestone streets; marvel at the city’s picturesque Baroque and Renaissance-style buildings; and tour Krumlov Castle, one of Europe’s largest castle complexes.

Cruise Day 5 – August 17, 2025
Vienna, Austria – Enjoy a full morning of scenic cruising, taking some time to sit back, relax and delight in the ever-changing views. Sleep in late, participate in a complimentary wellness class, treat yourself to a massage and get to know fellow cruisers while exploring all the amenities on board. In the afternoon, enjoy an overview of Vienna’s history and all its famous landmarks on a city tour showcasing all its regal splendors, including the majestic Opera House, St. Stephen’s Cathedral and the former Imperial Palace of the Habsburgs. Alternatively, take a thrilling guided bike ride along the romantic Danube Canal and through the city, traversing a ridge, cycling across a meadow and heading to Vienna’s famous Ringstrasse Boulevard.

Cruise Day 6 – August 18, 2025
Vienna, Austria – Following your overnight in the “City of Waltzes,” visit the UNESCO-designated Schonbrunn Palace and Gardens, the main summer residence of the Habsburg rulers. Built in the 18th century as an imperial summer residence, this magnificent 1,441-room Baroque palace is one of the most important architectural, cultural and historical monuments in Austria. If you prefer to connect with nature, journey to the town of Cobenzl where you will embark on a hike through the famed Vienna Woods that inspired a waltz composed by Johann Strauss II. Later in the day, explore Vienna at your leisure.

Cruise Day 7 – August 19, 2025
Budapest, Hungary – Budapest offers an unmatched combination of culture and tradition. Start your exploration of the city on the Buda side of the Danube, following your guide through the city’s Castle District where you will marvel at the fairytale turrets of Fisherman’s Bastion, gaze upon the breathtaking panorama below and see Matthias Church, renowned for its striking tower and colorful mosaic roof. For a more active tour, hike to Budapest’s Castle Hill. In the afternoon, explore the treasures of Pest, admire the colossal Hungarian Parliament Building, Heroes’ Square and the moving “Shoes on the Danube Bank” memorial. In the evening, head up to the Sun Deck or stroll around town, delighting in the way Budapest’s magnificent landmarks illuminate against the night sky.
