The Capitol building, once the center of political life in colonial Virginia, is where passionate debates and legislative decisions helped pave the way toward American independence. The Governor’s Palace, with its grand facade, lavish interiors, and formal gardens, served as the official residence of the Royal Governors of Virginia—and later, revolutionary leaders like Patrick Henry and Thomas Jefferson. As you explore, costumed interpreters bring the past vividly to life, sharing tales of rebellion, loyalty, and leadership.
