Celebrating th 100th Anniversary of the John Deere

Celebrating the 100th Aniversary of the John Deere Tractor!

2018 celebrates the 100th Anniversary of the John Deere Tractor and where better to take it all in but where it began in Waterloo, IA with the Waterloo Boy. Join Trailways Travel and one of our friendly on-board hosts aboard a deluxe motorcoach for two days of everything John Deere. We start with lunch at Galleria de Paco, an extremely unique restaurant where the arched ceiling is a recreation of the Sistine Chapel all done by a young Paco with nothing but aerosol paint cans! Not only is the art fantastic, but so is the food!

Get a behind-the-scenes look at how the John Deere machines are brought to life in some of the most modern and efficient factories in the world. Their factory tour guides will take you through each stage of the manufacturing process, explaining how all the pieces come together to meet the needs of farmers to help feed the world. Your John Deere adventure begins with the John Deere Drive Train tour. The drive train operations components include transmissions, front and rear axles, gears and shafts. This up-close and personal tour of the operations will give you an inside look as to the production of the tractor’s drive train. We depart Waterloo to Dunkerton for a personal tour of one of the most extensive, privately-owned collections in the Midwest. The collection of Kenny Kass is known for its antique tractors, and steam and gasoline engines. His collection includes prairie tractors from the turn of the century, Aultman-Taylor, Russell, and the rare Rumely Oil Pull tractors.

Dinner this evening will be your choice of a Ribeye Steak or Iowa Chop grilled on the spot at the George Wyth State Park. Relax along the water at the Fisher shelter house while you enjoy the views and company of your fellow John Deere enthusiasts and a few beverages while your meal is cooked to perfection. Along with the steak and chops you will enjoy a Baked Potato with the trimmings, Chop Chop Salad, and Fresh Fruit. We will return to our hotel, the Courtyard by Marriott, which was actually the former John Deere Foundry building.

After breakfast at the hotel, we head back for more factory tours. We begin with the John Deere Tractor Cab Assembly Operations where they build the 6R, 7R, 8R/8RT and 9R/9RT/9RX series tractors. Of course you can also check out their gift shop fully stocked with John Deere clothing, hats, toys, and accessories.

Next, enjoy the newest addition of the John Deere attractions, the John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum highlighting the history of John Deere tractors and engines. This collection of classic tractors and engines represents the evolution from a simple steel plow to today’s modern working machine.

Lunch today is a buffet at Pizza Ranch before returning back for the Engine Works Tour. Here, unfinished engine blocks, heads, and crankshafts are precision-machined and assembled into John Deere diesel engines, as well as power centers for other manufacturers. If needed, more time can be spent back at the Museum before we depart for home where you should return in time for dinner.
