Arizona is beckoning with the warmth of the sunshine and the Cubs are looking for their fans to join them for a day of Spring Training. Are you ready to leave the harsh reality of winter behind and explore the many great stops we have planned for you along the way?  Get a sampling of Route 66, make your own deductions in regards to the “Roswell Incident,” visit several national parks, a national forest and national monuments, visit beautiful Sedona and enjoy an authentic western cookout with cowboy entertainment. It’ll also be the trip that will have you anxious for baseball season and warmer, spring weather when you return!  It’s a great opportunity to escape the cold of the Midwest and explore out west, don’t be left behind “wishing” you had joined us!

A $300 deposit is due within one week of reservation. Must be paid in full by November 17, 2021. No refunds will be issued after November 17, 2021.


Activity level 3:

This tour requires average physical activity. Participants should be in good health, able to climb stairs and walk reasonable distances, possibly on uneven ground or unpaved trails. This tour covers areas of higher altitudes including overnight locations above 6,000 ft. and touring above 8,000 ft.

Day 1

Day 1: Wednesday, March 2, 2022
Depart Home / Salina
Join us from the available departure location of your choice this morning, meet your friendly onboard host, then get comfortable and get ready to head west! Enjoy rest and refresh breaks today, as needed, as well as a stop for lunch, on your own, as we make our way through Kansas City and Topeka on our way to Salina, Kansas for our overnight stay. Enjoy an included group dinner this evening at a local restaurant.

Day 2

Day 2: Thursday, March 3, 2022
Salina / Oklahoma City / Amarillo
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel this morning, depart Salina and head further southwest. Our lunch stop today will be in the beautiful Bricktown area of Oklahoma City where we will be joined by our professional western tour guide. Once a busy warehouse area, Bricktown is Oklahoma City’s hottest entertainment and dining district. Grab lunch at one of the numerous restaurants and explore all the revitalized historic buildings.
Then we are off to the National Route 66 Museum in Elk City. This museum focuses on the people who lived, worked and traveled the “Mother Road.” As you continue along Route 66, enter Texas and make your way to Amarillo. It’s said that “Everything’s Bigger in Texas!” which you’ll get to experience at The Big Texan Steak Ranch, home of the 72 oz. Steak Challenge! In 1960, R.J. “Bob” Lee opened The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, Texas on famed Route 66. Its distinctive architecture soon became recognized across the Mother Road as a good stopping place for great steaks grilled over an open flame.

Day 3

Day 3: Friday, March 4, 2022
Amarillo / Roswell / Las Cruces
After breakfast this morning travel to Roswell, made famous for the 1947 “Roswell Incident”. The purported UFO crash that some suspect was covered up by the military. We will stop and tour the International UFO Museum & Research Center and learn all about it.
Continue our journey through the Lincoln National Forest where we will stop at the White Sands National Park. This is one of the world’s great natural wonders. The glistening white sands with great wave-like dunes of gypsum sand engulf 275 square miles. Continue to Las Cruces and our overnight stay.

Day 4

Day 4: Saturday, March 5, 2022
Las Cruces / Scottsdale
After breakfast, head west towards the Old West town of Tucson. We will stop at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, a living world of nature showcasing the unique wildlife and plants of this strange and fascinating land. Then we will stop at Saguaro National Park, home to the nation’s largest cacti.
Continue our journey to the heart of the sunbelt, beautiful Scottsdale, just outside Phoenix. After seeing some of the city’s highlights by bus, you will check into your hotel in Scottsdale’s charming Old Town District. This evening, enjoy dinner on your own.

Day 5

Day 5: Sunday, March 6, 2022
Desert Botanical Garden / Chicago Cubs Training
After a leisurely morning, depart your hotel for a short drive to the Desert Botanical Garden. The garden is devoted exclusively to arid land plants of the world. The paved trail leads visitors through the garden where you will view succulents such as cactus, aloes, and century plants.
Next, we are headed to Sloan Field to catch the Chicago Cubs in Spring Training. Once we arrive, we will have our own private covered party deck along the third base line. Enjoy a buffet while the Cubs play. After the Cubs take care of their opponents, we will end our day with an authentic western cookout complete with cowboy entertainment. What a fun way to celebrate your time in Arizona!

Day 6

Day 6: Monday, March 7, 2022
Montezuma Castle National Monument / Sedona
Arizona calls iteself “A Diamond in the Rough” and you will understand why as you drive from the desert into the high plateau. On route, make a stop at Montezuma Castle National Monument. This well-preserved cliff building was built between 1100 A.D. and 1400 A.D., and contains a five-story, 19-room ruin.
Today you will see the abandoned homes much as they were when the last inhabitants departed. You will surely wonder why these ancient people left, and where they went.
Continue to Sedona, a thriving mecca for art lovers and collectors, and our overnight destination in Arizona’s redrock country. Here you will find more than a dozen commercial galleries featuring paintings, sculptures, and art objects.
Before checking into your hotel, you will have time to photograph picturesque Bell Rock, and see the contemporary Chapel of the Holy Cross, which was built upon the red rock spires. The afternoon is free for you to browse at the many galleries and shops available in Sedona.

Day 7

Day 7: Tuesday, March 8, 2022
Sedona / Albuquerque
Depart Sedona after breakfast this morning and travel east through the Coconino National Forest. The Painted Desert and its brilliant array of colors is also home to the largest deposit of fossilized wood in the world, Petrified Forest National Park.
These solidified trees range in length from one inch up to 250-feet; and you will have a chance to see some of the most beautiful of the fossils at the Visitor’s Center before continuing your journey. We will stop for lunch in Gallup on our way into Albuquerque for an overnight stay. Tonight, enjoy dinner, on your own, in Albuquerque.

Day 8

Day 8: Wednesday, March 9, 2022
Albuquerque / Dodge City
After breakfast, we depart for the journey back home. Say goodbye to your western tour guide before traveling through the Southwest, Texas, Oklahoma and end in Kansas for our overnight stay.

Day 9

Day 9: Thursday, March 10, 2022
Dodge City / Omaha
Depart Dodge City this morning to continue our journey home with rest and refresh breaks along the way, as needed, as well as a stop for lunch, on your own. Tonight, we will overnight where Warren Buffet calls home, Omaha. You are staying in the heart of Omaha’s downtown tonight surrounded by many restaurants. Join the group tonight at one of these for a farewell dinner.

Day 10

Day 10: Friday, March 11, 2022
Omaha / Home
Depart Omaha after breakfast this morning to return back home with fond memories of the warm weather and fun you’ve had in the Southwest!
