Day 1

Day 1: Friday, October 4, 2024
Up, up, and away – it’s time to grab your suitcase and head off to see the beautiful hot air balloons in Albuquerque! Board the luxury motorcoach from the available departure location of your choice, meet your friendly on-board host and driver, then settle back and visit while making some new friends today. We will be making our usual lunch and rest & refresh breaks along the way before arriving for our overnight stay in Emporia, Kansas. Dinner is on your own this evening with several restaurant options available near the hotel.

Day 2

Day 2: Saturday, October 5, 2024
Have breakfast at the hotel this morning before checking out and heading out for the Salt Mines! This morning you will be touring the Strataca Kansas Underground Salt Museum at your own pace. From interactive exhibits to underground tram tours through vast caverns, Strataca offers a unique and immersive experience unlike any other. We will split our group into two groups for the underground tour. Descend 650 feet below the earth’s surface into an otherworldly realm carved out of ancient salt deposits. Discover the fascinating story of salt mining and its significance to the region’s economy and culture.
We depart to make our way to Elk City, Oklahoma for an overnight stay. This evening, dinner is included at the Cracker Barrel Old Country Store on our way to the hotel.

Day 3

Day 3: Sunday, October 6, 2024
Let’s go – this evening we get to see the hot air balloons! Grab breakfast at the hotel before departing for a day of travel with lunch and rest & refresh breaks as needed along the way. We do an early check-in at the hotel so that you will have time to freshen up from your day of travel before departing for Balloon Fiesta Park, where the sky in October becomes a canvas of color and wonder.
We join the excitement at the Chaser’s Club, an exclusive club offering balloon enthusiasts a prime vantage point to witness the dazzling night glow. With comfortable seating, delicious food and drinks (included), and live commentary from experienced balloon chasers, the Chaser’s Club provides an unparalleled experience for attendees. Dinner will be here at the Chaser’s Club with all the fixin’s for a great taco meal. Included is your choice of ground beef, chicken, or vegetarian tacos, served with Spanish rice and whole pinto beans. Of course there are plenty of toppings too including shredded cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, and salsa plus New Mexico Green Chile Stew. Then it’s time to experience the enchantment of the Evening Glow. As dusk descends upon Balloon Fiesta Park, watch in awe as the vibrant hot air balloons illuminate the night sky in a mesmerizing display of color and light. Against the backdrop of the Sandia Mountains, the glowing balloons create a magical atmosphere, casting a warm and inviting glow over the park. Keep your eyes peeled, for the Team Fastrax Skydiving that begins at 7:30 and a drone light show at 7:45 tonight. End this great day with the AfterGlow Fireworks Show that starts at 8:00 pm before we return to the hotel where you can dream about floating across the sky in a big, beautiful balloon!

Day 4

Day 4: Monday, October 7, 2024
Have a great breakfast this morning before we depart for a great adventure today.
Soar to new heights on the Sandia Peak Tramway, an iconic aerial adventure offering breathtaking views of Albuquerque and the surrounding landscapes. As the longest aerial tramway in the world, it transports us from the desert floor to the majestic peaks of the Sandia Mountains in just minutes. Experience the thrill of ascending 2.7 miles to the summit, where panoramic vistas await at an elevation of over 10,000 feet. With this stunning scenery, the tramway promises an unforgettable journey above the clouds. You’ll soon see for yourself why it’s been hailed as one of the most scenic tramways in the world.
We return to the base of Sandia Peak and depart for some exploration, and lunch, at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Explore vibrant exhibits showcasing the art, history, and traditions of the Pueblo peoples, with interactive displays and insightful presentations on your own self-guided tour. After your cultural exploration, indulge in a delicious lunch with traditional Native American flavors celebrated in each dish. Have the opportunity to witness the mesmerizing artistry and cultural heritage come alive with a performance by a Native American dance troupe. Enchanting rhythms and vibrant regalia fill the air as dancers showcase traditional dances passed down through generations. Each step, gesture, and beat carry the spirit of the Pueblo peoples, celebrating their rich traditions and resilience. From the spirited movements of the hoop dance to the graceful precision of the fancy shawl dance, every performance offers a glimpse into the rich tapestry of Native American culture.
It will soon be time to make our way back to the hotel for a bit of rest and relaxation before departing for this evening’s included meal at the Range Café where we will indulge in the flavors of the Southwest. With its vibrant and eclectic atmosphere, this beloved local eatery offers a delightful fusion of New Mexican, American, and international cuisine. Of course, its colorful décor and welcoming ambiance makes it the perfect spot to gather for a memorable dining experience to round out our day. Be sure to hit the hay early tonight as we will be up before the chickens tomorrow morning to see more spectacular hot air balloons!

Day 5

Day 5: Tuesday, October 8, 2024
Rise and shine – we are off before the sun is up this morning to return to Balloon Fiesta Park. We return once more to the Chaser’s Club for an included breakfast buffet and the Dawn Patrol Show followed by the Krispy Kreme Morning Glow. At 7:00 am (weather and wind permitting) you will be treated to the Flight of the Nations Mass Ascension. As the sun rises over the Sandia Mountains, witness a dazzling display of color and culture as balloons representing countries from around the world take to the skies in unison. From the majestic stars and stripes of the United States to the vibrant flags of Mexico, Brazil, and beyond, each balloon adds its unique flair to this spectacular event. It’s so exciting to be one of the many spectators gathering to marvel at this celebration of global unity and the timeless wonder of ballooning. NOTE: The Chaser’s Club breakfast bowl options include scrambled eggs, bacon and sausage pieces, breakfast potatoes, shredded cheese, green chile sauce, red chile sauce and flour tortillas. Also available is a fresh fruit salad, blintz with strawberry compote, whipped cream and powdered sugar toppings, yogurt and an oatmeal station with raisins, brown sugar, walnut and almond pieces, almond milk and whole milk. New Mexico Green Chile Stew is also served.
If you still haven’t gotten quite enough ballooning in, we are off to discover the magic of ballooning at the Anderson-Abruzzo Albuquerque International Balloon Museum, where adventure takes flight and history comes alive. This world-class museum celebrates the art, science, and culture of hot air ballooning through captivating exhibits, interactive displays, and immersive experiences. Trace the evolution of ballooning from its early beginnings to modern-day marvels, learn about pioneering aviators, and marvel at artifacts showcasing the ingenuity and spirit of exploration. With its panoramic views of Balloon Fiesta Park and the Sandia Mountains, the museum offers a breathtaking backdrop for you to explore, learn, and be inspired by the wonders of flight.
Since we were up before the crack of dawn this morning, it is time to grab some lunch and head back to the hotel to rest up and take a nap! But don’t sleep too long as we will be headed to Old Town Albuquerque for a guided walking tour of this historic and culturally rich corner of the Southwest. We are sure you will have worked up an appetite for dinner this evening at the El Pinto Restaurant. You’ll find it nestled amidst the vibrant culture and stunning landscapes of Albuquerque, a culinary gem renowned for its authentic New Mexico cuisine and warm hospitality. Established in 1962, this family-owned eatery has become a beloved institution, delighting locals and visitors alike with its flavorful dishes and charming ambiance. Set against the backdrop of adobe walls and lush gardens, El Pinto offers a true taste of the Southwest! After dinner we will return to the hotel for the remainder of the evening.

Day 6

Day 6: Wednesday, October 9, 2024
Fuel up on breakfast this morning before we check out of the hotel and hit the road for some more exploration – this time in Santa Fe! Immerse yourself in the vibrant world of iconic American artist Georgia O’Keeffe at the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Nestled in the heart of the city’s historic downtown, this museum offers a captivating journey through O’Keeffe’s life and artistic evolution. From her renowned floral paintings to captivating landscapes of the Southwest, the museum’s collection showcases O’Keeffe’s pioneering vision and mastery of form and color. Stroll through the galleries filled with her iconic works, gaining insight into her creative process and profound connection to the natural world. NOTE: Only non-flash photography is allowed in the museum, however some artworks may not be photographed at all. These pieces of art will have a “No Photography” icon above the painting’s information. Also, please silence your phone will in the gallery.
We say goodbye to New Mexico as we begin to make our way back to the Midwest today with an overnight stay in Dalhart, Texas. We will make a stop for dinner on our way to the hotel.

Day 7

Day 7: Thursday, October 10, 2024
Partake in the included breakfast at the hotel this morning before we depart to Dodge City. The Boot Hill Museum is nestled in the heart of historic Dodge City, Kansas and offers a captivating journey back in time to the Wild West era. Today we step into the pages of history as we explore this immersive living history museum, where the spirit of the Old West comes alive through authentic buildings, artifacts, and interactive exhibits. Wander down the wooden boardwalks of Front Street, where saloons, general stores, and gunsmith shops transport you to a bygone era of cowboys, outlaws, and lawmen. Marvel at the collection of period firearms, costumes, and memorabilia that bring the legends of Dodge City to life. From lively gunfight reenactments to stagecoach rides and blacksmith demonstrations, there’s something for everyone!
As they say, “It’s time to head out of Dodge” as we make our way out of town for dinner and an overnight stay in Hutchinson, Kansas. Dine at the Dutch Kitchen Restaurant with a down-home meal served family-style of fried chicken and roast beef. The Dutch Kitchen is a beloved local institution known for its hearty comfort food and warm hospitality. Stepping into the Dutch Kitchen is like stepping into a cozy farmhouse kitchen, where the aroma of home-cooked meals fills the air and friendly faces greet you at every turn. With our tummies full we end the day at the hotel for a great night of rest.

Day 8

Day 8: Friday, October 11, 2024
Enjoy breakfast this morning before we set out for a stop in Abilene, Kansas. We begin our time in Abilene with the Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Museum and Campus offering a comprehensive journey through the life and legacy of one of America’s most revered leaders. Set on beautifully landscaped grounds, the museum campus encompasses the boyhood home of Dwight D. Eisenhower, a state-of-the-art visitor center, and the Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum. Step inside the museum to explore immersive exhibits chronicling Eisenhower’s remarkable military career, his presidency during a pivotal era in American history, and his enduring impact on the nation and the world. From interactive displays and artifacts to multimedia presentations and archival documents, the museum provides a fascinating glimpse into the life of the 34th President of the United States. Wander through the tranquil grounds to visit Eisenhower’s final resting place and reflect on his enduring legacy of leadership, integrity, and service to the country. Whether you’re a history buff, a student of leadership, or simply curious about one of America’s greatest leaders, a visit to the Eisenhower Presidential Museum and Campus offers a captivating and educational experience for visitors of all ages.
It’s time for lunch and we’ve found a beloved local spot offering a cozy and inviting atmosphere paired with delicious comfort food – Joe Snuffy’s. With its friendly service and home-cooked meals, it’s no wonder that Joe Snuffy’s has been a favorite dining destination in Abilene for years.
We make one more stop in Abilene today at The Seelye Mansion which stands as a testament to the opulence and grandeur of the Gilded Age and holds a rich history intertwined with the lives of the remarkable sisters who owned it. Dr. A.B. Seelye built the mansion in 1905 for his daughters, Lillian and Minnie Seelye. Despite being unmarried, the sisters became influential figures in the community, known for their philanthropy and dedication to education and the arts. Lillian and Minnie hosted lavish social gatherings at the mansion, welcoming dignitaries, artists, and intellectuals from near and far. Their passion for cultural enrichment and civic engagement left a lasting legacy in Abilene, shaping the town’s identity and inspiring future generations. Today, the Seelye Mansion stands as a testament to the sisters’ vision and generosity, offering visitors a glimpse into the lives of two extraordinary women who made a lasting impact on their community.
Tonight, we overnight in Kansas City, Missouri at the Drury Inn & Suites where we will partake in their evening Kickback Reception. Drury’s Kickback has become a bit of a tradition with our Trailways Travelers. Every evening, guests are invited to unwind and indulge in a complimentary spread of appetizers and beverages. Whether it’s a savory selection of hot food items, including chicken tenders, macaroni and cheese, and meatballs, or lighter fare like salads and soups, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Pair these delectable offerings with a variety of beverages, including beer, wine, and soft drinks, for the perfect way to relax and recharge after a day of travel or exploration. If you wish to have more of a sit-down restaurant-style meal, there are generally restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

Day 9

Day 9: Saturday, October 12, 2024
Up and at ‘em – today’s the day we make it back home and tomorrow you’ll have to fix your own breakfast so be sure to enjoy the hot breakfast provided here at the Drury before departing. We will make a stop for lunch and our usual rest & refresh breaks as needed. You can enjoy sharing the great memories you’ve made and marvel about the fabulous hot air balloons you got to experience on this fabulous Trailways tour on your way home today. And with the new friends you’ve made, who knows, perhaps you can even start planning your next Trailways adventure along with them.
