Day 1: Saturday, January 14, 2023
Join us this morning from the available departure location of your choice, meet your friendly onboard host and driver, and then settle in as we set our sights on warmer weather and sunshine in the great state of Texas!
Enjoy rest and refresh breaks today as we travel along, as well as a stop for lunch, on your own. We overnight in Rolla, Missouri tonight at the Drury Inn and arrive in time to get checked in and enjoy their “5:30 Kickback” served every evening from 5:30-7:00pm. Enjoy a rotating menu with delights such as chicken fingers, baked potatoes, buffalo-style chicken wings, charbroiled meatballs, fresh carrots and celery, egg rolls, garden salad, soups and more.
If you’d like, you may also enjoy dinner, on your own, at a nearby restaurant.
Day 2: Sunday, January 15, 2023
After enjoying breakfast at the hotel this morning, depart for the Wonders of Wildlife Museum & Aquarium in Springfield. Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife National Museum and Aquarium is the largest immersive wildlife attraction in the world. Explore a 1.5-million-gallon aquarium adventure showcasing 35,000 live fish, mammals, reptiles and birds and a wildlife museum offering a tour of the wildest places on earth. The 350,000-square foot experience features more than 1.5 miles of immersive trails and exhibits.
Have time while visiting to enjoy lunch, on your own, from the Fish Tales Café, Hemingway’s Blue Water Café or the Shipwreck Snack Bar.
This afternoon, we’ll travel to Claremore, Oklahoma for our overnight stay. After getting checked in to our hotel, we’ll enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 3: Monday, January 16, 2023
Have breakfast at the hotel this morning before we continue our journey through Oklahoma. As we pass through Oklahoma City we’ll visit the new First Americans Museum. In one place, you will experience the collective histories of 39 distinctive First American Nations in Oklahoma today. First Americans Museum will share the cultural diversity, history, and contributions of the First Americans.
Only a few tribal Nations were indigenous to what is now the State of Oklahoma. All others were removed from homelands across the contiguous U.S. to Indian Territory. In 1907 Oklahoma became the 46th state to enter the union. The state’s name comes from two Choctaw words “Okla” and “Homma” meaning Red People.
This afternoon, enjoy dinner and a tour at the famous Southfork Ranch, just outside of Dallas, Texas. Known worldwide as America’s most famous ranch, you’ll enjoy a tour and then a great Texas Barbecue Dinner afterwards.
Overnight in Dallas tonight, with the remainder of the evening free, on your own.
Day 4: Tuesday, January 17, 2023
After enjoying breakfast at your Dallas hotel this morning, depart for San Antonio. Enjoy rest and refresh breaks, as needed, as well as a stop for lunch, on your own.
Arrive at the Drury Inn & Suites Hotel San Antonio Riverwalk, located right on the San Antonio River. You’ll be within walking distance from shops, restaurants, and entertainment. Relax in the sun on the deck of the rooftop pool, which also has two whirpools!
Formerly the Alamo National Bank, this 24-story renovated skyscraper features 50-foot ceilings, travertine flooring and stained glass windows.
Dinner is on your own this evening, however you may wish to take advantage of the hotel’s 5:30 kickback meal.
Day 5: Wednesday, January 18, 2023
After breakfast, meet your local guide for a San Antonio City Tour to include San Fernando Cathedral, a walking tour of King William Historic District, and a driving tour of the city. You will then have free time for lunch and shopping, on your own, at the El Mercado.
The El Mercado market square is the largest Mexican market in the United States. El Mercado brings the spice of Mexico to San Antonio. There are over 25 different shops and vendors, where you can do some of your best bargain hunting. Items range from glassware, leather goods, vanilla and other colorful treasures.
You’ll also take a scenic cruise along the Riverwalk today. This is an unforgettable way to experience the world-famous San Antonio Riverwalk. It captures the sights, wonders and culture of the River City.
This evening, enjoy delicious Tex-Mex Cuisine. Known as the home of the Ultimate Fajita and the 60 oz. Margarita, Café Ole offers multi-level seating, scenic views of the river, and quality indoor seating. Strolling Mariachis are common accompaniments and add that extra touch, providing the perfect festive atmosphere. Ole!
Day 6: Thursday, January 19, 2023
After breakfast this morning, begin the day with a tour of the San Antonio Missions. This guided tour will provide you with an insider look at what life was like in the 18th century, and how these important religious sites have earned their status in the world. Visit the Alamo, San Antonio de Valero, and Mission San Jose. The size of the complex bears witness to San Jose’s reputation as the “Queen of the Missions” and became the showplace of the southwest.
Next, enjoy the exhibits and displays that tell the stories of Texans at the Institute of Texan Cultures. The Museum exists to help you understand and celebrate the cultural heritage of Texas. The Institute is a lesson in diversity, and it shows the uniqueness and beauty of the many cultures that came to Texas. It shows the contributions those cultures have made to the state’s character, through music and dance, food, stories and traditions, religion, artisan skills, and ways of life.
Tonight’s dinner is in a classroom, complete with a cooking demonstration. You will learn how to make the perfect Enchilada paired with the perfect Margaritas. This two-hour class includes cooking instruction where you learn to make Enchilada Verdes (chicken enchilada with tangy green tomatillo sauce) served with rice, borracho beans, handmade flour or corn tortillas, and a non-alcoholic beverage. You will also be instructed on how to make two popular margaritas and receive servings of both. The event ends with a dessert of fabulous tres leches cake, and a souvenir recipe card.
Day 7: Friday, January 20, 2023
Enjoy one last breakfast in San Antonio this morning before we travel to South Padre Island, 34 miles of beautiful white sand and clear emerald waters. South Padre Island is one of the world’s most exquisite barrier islands. Before checking in to your hotel, stop by the Visitors Center for a warm welcome.
We’ll be staying just a three-minute walk to the beach where you can enjoy the array of adventures available near the hotel’s site on South Padre Island. After exploring, you may choose to saddle up and experience a beach sunset via horseback at the Island Equestrian Center.
Enjoy dinner this evening at the famed Sea Ranch Restaurant. Sea Ranch Restaurant is simply a South Padre Island “Must Do.” They have been serving the island visitors for over 35 years and have become the island’s premier dining restaurant.
Day 8: Saturday, January 21, 2023
After breakfast at the hotel, your morning and afternoon are free to explore the area, on your own. Spend some time at the beach, take advantage of the excellent shopping opportunities, or spend some time at the local attractions.
Enjoy dinner this evening at Gabriella’s Italian Restaurant. After dinner, depart for a sunset dolphin cruise. One of the most unique activities on South Padre Island is the dolphin watching tour. South Texas is a year-round home to several large pods of dolphins. Share the thrill of meeting bottle-nose and spinner dolphins in the wild and experience the unique bond and kinship they inspire in mankind. Take in the sunshine and salty air along with an education presentation aboard the 60’ cruise boat Double Sunshine.
Day 9: Sunday, January 22, 2023
After breakfast at the hotel this morning, visit the South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center. As one of the nine World Birding Center sites located within the lower Rio Grande Valley, their primary goal is to provide excellent, one-of-a-kind birding opportunities coupled with interpretive tours of the site and educational opportunities to learn about birds and birding on South Padre Island. But they don’t just talk about the birds on the island; they also have fabulous fish, dolphin, plants and other animals to talk about too.
Visit the world-renowned Sea Turtle Inc. Founded in 1977 by Ila Loetscher, better known as “the Turtle Lady,” the organization has dedicated itself to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of sea turtles. Sea Turtle Inc. is instrumental in bringing back the Kem’s Ridley Sea Turtle from the brink of extinction. The remainder of the day is free, and dinner is on your own this evening.
Day 10: Monday, January 23, 2023
Enjoy breakfast at the hotel before departing for a historical ranch tour. Today, visit the largest ranch in Texas. The King Ranch is comprised of 825,000 acres and was founded in 1853 by Captain Richard King and Gideon K. Lewis. The journey begins at the historic Santa Gertrudis Creek where Captain King first camped in 1852. Your guide will explain the history and the modern-day workings of the Ranch.
While touring the ranch, enjoy lunch at Cowboy Camphouse BBQ. Ring the cook’s dinner bell and experience a barbeque at the historic King Ranch camp house. The lunch menu includes beef brisket and smoked sausage prepared over a mesquite wood fire, potato salad or coleslaw, camp beans, relishes and a beverage.
This evening, we check in to our Waco hotel for an overnight stay. Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant.
Day 11: Tuesday, January 24, 2023
After delighting in breakfast at the hotel this morning, depart for the Texas Ranger Museum. The Texas Ranger Hall of Fame and Museum in Waco is the state-designated official historical center of the famed Texas Rangers law enforcement agency. The Texas Ranger is one of the most cherished symbols of the Lone Star State, a positive and enduring icon of Texas and America.
Next, visit the famed Magnolia Markets! There’s a little something for everyone at Magnolia Market at the Silos. Shopping, games, the garden and even a bite to eat. If there’s one thing all of the food trucks at the Silos have in common, it’s that each of them houses some of the best local eats in town. You can’t go wrong with any one of them. Whether you’re looking for breakfast, lunch, dessert or a quick snack, there is something for everyone.
Day 12: Wednesday, January 25, 2023
After breakfast, depart for the Route 66 Car Museum. The 20,000-square-foot Route 66 Car Museum features a 70 car collection of sports cars, 1907 to 1980 classics and movie cars. The museum is a privately owned car collection that is located along the famed and historic Route 66. Guy Mace started collecting in 1990 when he bought his first Jaguar. The collection has since grown to 75 automobiles that “strike a fancy.” Ranging from early brass era cars to vehicles used in cinema such as the Gotham Roadster, this collection is sure to have a vehicle for every museum goer’s taste. The museum houses seven Jaguars, two Rolls Royces, a 1963 Morgan owned by Desert Storm’s General Norman Schwarzkopf, and the famous truck from the movie “Grapes of Wrath” that starred Henry Fonda.

After breakfast this morning, we’ll depart for home with rest and refresh breaks as needed, as well as a stop for lunch along the way. Arrive back home this evening with wonderful memories made along the Riverwalk and Texas Riviera.
