Amana Colonies Adventures- SE IA

Join us this morning from the available departure location of your choice, meet your friendly on-board host, then away to Amana we go! We arrive at the Museum of Amana History this morning to explore the rich history these colonies hold. The Museum features displays depicting the colonist’s history and lifestyle. Our next stop will be the Amana Church Museum where you will experience the basic of the Amana Inspirationist Faith. Tour this church, built in 1865, that explains Amana’s religious heritage, practices and beliefs. We then depart for the Broom and Basket Shop. Here you will see how brooms are made while listening to the broom maker spin his yarn.

Enjoy some shopping time in High Amana at the Old-fashioned General Store which was built in 1857. Established back in communal days, the store’s exterior and interior have remained virtually unchanged all these years. They have stocked the shelves with an interesting variety of hard-to-find trinkets and unique treasures from days gone by. Everyone is sure to find something that brings a smile to their face. Next, arrive at the Communal Kitchen and Copper Shop. Amana once had over fifty communal kitchens including the Ox Yoke Inn. Enjoy stepping back in time as you see where villages came together to eat. Our last stop before lunch will be at the Woolen Mill. Amana is home to Iowa’s only remaining Woolen Mill. You will get to see looms weaving, large displays and enjoy the retail store on site.

This afternoon we arrive at the Ox Yoke Inn to enjoy a three entrée family-style lunch. Choose from assorted fried chicken, beef or a pork option. Sides include two salads, real potatoes, gravy, steamed vegetables, a selection of breads with homemade strawberry jam and apple pie for dessert.

We end our touring in Amana with a stop at the Amana Meat Shop and Smokehouse. Step inside the tall smokehouse tower to sample and purchase delicious foods to bring home with you!
